Maybe we will get a few responses before Thursday. I think this is a great idea!
How much pvc pipe do you want me to bring?
We can make a 1/2 and 3/4" models or leave them all the same size?
I feel 3/4 would be stronger. Let me know how much pipe and what size(s)?.........John

John I have not had any response from anyone as of this e-mail. I will bring PVC cutter, electrical tape, cable ties and wire for making the hairpin. I can pick up as many 4 way and "T' as needed based on on number of responses.
What is your opinion as to size of PVC 1/2 or 3/4???
  Pat

    Pat,
I will be interested in a couple of these antennas.
I will be glad to pick up the materials needed for as many of these antennas as we have interest?
Let me know how many we need to build and I will help you get up the materials.

      Fellow SARC members,

At the February meeting we discussed building "Tape Measure Beam Antenna" and having a fox hunt. I attended the March "NOARC" meeting where Steve Mullins, KE4VGB demonstrated how to build the antenna. One member said he had his antennas mounted in the attic pointed at the Crestview repeater and used it when there was an electrical storm in the area.

I built one antenna for less than $ 3.00. with all new materials except the 1inch tape measure which I found at a local hardware store which had been returned under warranty ( broken at end).

If you will e-mail me that you are interested in building a "Tape Measure Antenna" I will bring all materials needed, except 1 inch tape measure and RG 58, to the meeting and we will build together.

You can build your antenna with 3/4 or 1/2 inch PVC pipe. ( I used 1/2 inch ) If you would like to buy your own materials you will need
1 1 inch wide tape measure that can be cannibalized for the antenna
2 4 way female connector in 1/2 or 3/4 (1/2 inch is .79 each at Breedlove)
          1 standard "T" in 1/2 or 3/4
1 24 inches of pipe ( Breedlove Building Supply sells 4 foot 1/2 for $1.00 and have 3/4 also)
6 stainless steal pipe clamps that will fit over 4 way connectors ( I will bring cable straps)
1 piece of RG58 in the length you prefer but no shorter than 2 foot with a connector for your radio on one end
1 5 inch piece # 14 or smaller wire to make a hairpin for tuning

Some one please bring antenna tuner for checking antennas after assembly.

I will have a set of plans at the meeting or you can download plans at
      http://www.n6mrx.com/Antenna/tape_measaure_beam_optimixed_for_.htm

Look forward to hearing from you and seeing everyone on Thursday night 7:00 PM Andalusia Public Library Annex. We will discuss having a fox hunt after we get some antennas built.
